Bloggin in the land of Danskos and Subarus

Ok so some fellow VT bloggers have ratted me out. For a little over a year I’ve been flyin’ under the radar, keepin’ it on the dl and just throw up my thoughts on this forum free-for-all. Truth be told I have always felt like an outsider here ever since I moved here with the now ex-wife in ‘97. It certainly was not what I expected or perhaps I have changed over the years. Tinymeat has been an outlet for creative expression that oftentimes doesn’t fit the model of a “Vermont Made” company. It wasn’t by conscious choice, it just happened.
False45th sums it up nicely
If you’ve ever been to the Montpelier farmer’s market, you’ve seen the Tiny Meat folks selling their cool hipster iPod covers, wallets, card cases and wristbands. The urban artsy designs and colors are very un-Montpelier which makes their booth at the market so eye-catching. It’s a fun contrast to all of the sun-faded-color of the organic farmers.
Yeah Farmers Market, you heard right. Between the “what’s Tinymeat?” and argueing with some bearded ass-clown that makes giant wooden spoons, we met alot of really cool people and spread the word of “Tiny” throughout our fair city. Still debating on whether to sling our wares again this year. I’m on the fence so help me out here. The set-up/tear down is a bitch but hot damn the Pop Soda is the shizzle.
Hmm, I’ll have to sleep on this one.
Hey, guess what? My post on Tiny Meat and Mindless in Montpelier has been selected as the Seven Days “Blog Post of the Week”. So, Tiny meat will get a little exposure in Seven days this week.
Mike, I see a parallel between your idea of the collective communicating only through song to blog comment conversations with bevs? Not so sure how healthy that is.
so are we in for we are scientists or not?…cuz i have been burnt one too many times sweetie…if i’m gonna throw down, i need a firm committment…
I don’t think they are playin around here however I would drag my ass outta the house to go see them. They also draw me in although an entire show might be a bit much. The live footage I have seen of them has them hussling around the campfire/drum circle, without the fire or drums. Kinda trippy.
It would be cool if they had some amazing backstory like that are all savant that have never spoken a word to each other and only communicated through song. Now that woul be a “collective”
Where is the Animal Collective show? It’s bizarre that I even ask that because with an excpetion of a few songs, they bug the crap out of me. But I’m weirdly drawn to them and curious what they are like live. I imagine all of them having multiple heads and three eyes and whatnot. I guess it’s their weirdness that gets me. Good or bad.
I can vouch for Josh. He smells as sweet as a summer breeze and is even cooler.
I’m down for the We are Scientists show. It’s the day prior to the world music/hippie show in Montpelier (Toubab Krewe), but I might be able make it out for back to back shows. I mean, 99 cents? Amazing.
I can’t certify that I’m non-smelly (I do practice good hygenie. ) or even cool, but I do like good shows and believe the more the merrier.
I too like your display at the farmer’s market. I think the “hippie” representation in this town to be a bit less then how it appears on the surface. Montpelier is much more diverse, much more rednecky, straight laced, dorky, goth, hipster, jock, etc, etc, etc. It’s good for the farmer’s market to represent that.
Hey Murf,
Oh hey your the fella that hollered over at last.fm. Greetings. Sorry I missed that Arctic Monkeys show. I take it Josh and you went.
I have this “thing” where I bale on social events at the last minute. It’s happened twice with shows in the last couple of years. Bevs bought us tix to see to of my favs: first the Grandaddy show down in Worcester, Mass. I will forever kick myself for that one as they are now callin’ it quits. Then to top that she bought me tickets so see my all-time-favorite act from my youth, wait for it………
yep Pixies. I was such a loser. However on seperate occasions she dragged me outta the house to see Yo La Tengo and The Beatie Boys
Sooo if we have some some non-smelly cool hipster types to kick it with I might be persuaded to attend:
Animal Collective
dEUS (roadtrip anyone?)
We are Scientists
The Beatings/New Radiant Storm King/ whatever cool Boston band that might be playin down south
Come on. You have to fire up the multi-colored display again. We’re slowly building a hipster urban indie loving crowd up here. The Pop Soda folks are very cool and love indie rock. I’ve converted Bo from Phishhead to Mr. Go Team. It’s only a matter of time until Boots trades in his CCCP t-shirt for a Clap Your Hands shirt.
Seriously, having to work every Saturday morning would kill me. I’d completely understand if you ditched the market.
