Cleanliness is next to Godliness… or wait…Godliness is next to Cleanliness

Ok, so, a friend and I were recently perusing the pope dope in our local daily when she asked; “uh, they embalmed him, right?” I, of course, responded with my pat, condescending, “duh, dumbass” look upon my face; “hells yeah, I mean, come on, he would be all rank and icky otherwise.”

Well, evidently, according to the nightly news and the Vatican, I am so wrong. The deal is that since popes are so holy and whatnot they don’t need to get embalmed as, by default, they don’t get stank. Hmmmm…now I seem to remember a few years ago one Pope John XXIII was exhumed and found to have been embalmed…yikes, my thoughts are akimbo and I just don’t know what to think. Is someone not being truthful??? Should I just quiet down and not question what is divine???

On a quest for the truth I have decided to conduct my own research…and this is what I need, I need someone, anyone who made the pilgrimage this past week, or someone who knows someone who did to answer Bev’s question of the week:
